A family history blog

Edward Scott / Elizabeth Richardson

A short history of the lives of Edward and Elizabeth Scott, my great-great grandparents.

Edward Scott was born in 1854 in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, the son of a farmer. By the age of 15 he was working as a groom in nearby Horncastle.

Elizabeth Richardson was born in 1859 in Hemingby, Lincolnshire, the daughter of agricultural labourer William Richardson and his wife Elizabeth.

Edward and Elizabeth were married in 1880, though Elizabeth had already had one child who was then living with her parents. It is unknown whether this child’s father was her husband Edward. They lived in Hemingby, where Edward worked as a farm labourer. They went on to have another five daughters and two sons. Three of their daughters emigrated to New Zealand. There are no known photos of either Edward or Elizabeth.
